Original Single: Pretty Ugly World
Listen to the original single, Pretty Ugly World—an original indie dance pop song I hope you’ll enjoy.
The song was inspired by passages from Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations. There is a section that begins with, “When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself: the people I deal with today will be meddling, ungrateful, arrogant, dishonest, jealous and surly. They are like this because they can’t tell good from evil. But I have seen the beauty of good, and the ugliness of evil, and have recognized that the wrongdoer has a nature related to my own – not of the same blood and birth, but the same mind, and possessing a share of the divine…” It’s worth a read and this post, How To Begin Each Day For Optimal Sanity on Medium has a few choice highlights.
Pretty Ugly World
It’s a pretty ugly world
Talking with a friend about the world we’re in today
Look outside, we cheat and lie, its wrong in every way
She calmly said to me that’s just the way it is
People can be good and bad but don’t start giving in
She said:
It’s a pretty ugly world
Yes, it’s pretty ugly world
Then someone else said that you’re seeing your own self
You have choices to make change or stay oblivious
Reminding me that anger’s poison I can take
Its no good and understood there’s choices that we make
He said:
It’s a pretty ugly world
There are selfish boys and girls
Yes it’s a pretty ugly world
But there are loving boys and girls
Since school yard differences we somehow made it work
There’s no place for hatred now so please don’t make it worse
I said
It’s a pretty ugly world
There are selfish boys and girls
Yes it’s a pretty ugly world
But can it mean much more for us?
It’s a pretty ugly world
There are selfish boys and girls
But there are turtles in the sea
And there’s a place for you and me
