    Original Single: Pretty Ugly World

Listen to the original single, Pretty Ugly World—an original indie dance pop song I hope you’ll enjoy.

Pretty Ugly World, an original single by p.m.warner

The song was inspired by passages from Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations. There is a section that begins with, “When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself: the people I deal with today will be meddling, ungrateful, arrogant, dishonest, jealous and surly. They are like this because they can’t tell good from evil. But I have seen the beauty of good, and the ugliness of evil, and have recognized that the wrongdoer has a nature related to my own – not of the same blood and birth, but the same mind, and possessing a share of the divine…” It’s worth a read and this post, How To Begin Each Day For Optimal Sanity on Medium has a few choice highlights.

    Pretty Ugly World

    It’s a pretty ugly world

Talking with a friend about the world we’re in today

Look outside, we cheat and lie, its wrong in every way

She calmly said to me that’s just the way it is

People can be good and bad but don’t start giving in

    She said:

    It’s a pretty ugly world

    Yes, it’s pretty ugly world

Then someone else said that you’re seeing your own self

You have choices to make change or stay oblivious

Reminding me that anger’s poison I can take

Its no good and understood there’s choices that we make

    He said:

    It’s a pretty ugly world

There are selfish boys and girls

Yes it’s a pretty ugly world

But there are loving boys and girls

Since school yard differences we somehow made it work

There’s no place for hatred now so please don’t make it worse

    I said

    It’s a pretty ugly world

There are selfish boys and girls

Yes it’s a pretty ugly world

But can it mean much more for us?

    It’s a pretty ugly world

There are selfish boys and girls

But there are turtles in the sea

And there’s a place for you and me

Patterns: Listen To The New Electropop Track

Patterns, the new electropop track by p.m.warner

Dreams, so easy to lose sight of, to let fall away. A recent night outside, I remembered to look up and lose myself in the stars. The sky glowed with uncountable numbers of them. With something this big, immense and unknowable, who am I to stop dreaming? I wanted to write something that captured that spirit. To always keep your dreams, because they really will set you free.

    Lyrics

    Patterns

    Calling all the stars

    Doesn’t matter where we are

    The universe can seem

    Cold and unfeeling

    And as the patterns rise

    There’s whispers from the skies

    You’re looking too far down

    Don’t ever close your eyes

    A fascinating scene

    Doesn’t matter where you’ve been

    A broken vein of light

    Cuts through the soundless night

    Patterns never seen

    There’s always time to sleep

    This is your entrance

    Remembering to dream

    Standing where you are

When everything it seems so far

    A pulsing rhythm climbs

    Up from your bleeding heart

This time is yours to be

    These patterns to be seen

    Believe in who you are

    No matter where you’ve been

    All you need

    Is a little empathy

    Dare to dream

    of a single symphony

All you need is a little empathy

(Doesn’t matter if we fall, it only matters if that’s all)

Dare to scheme a simple symphony

(Never let go of your dreams its the only way to be)

    It’s all right

    Let them call it fantasy

(Keep on holding to your scene, that’s all you have to believe)

    ‘Cause all we need

Is a little time to dream

(We’ll never let go of our dreams, its all we have to remain free)

Yes, It’s That Time Again—Time to Dance: Better Left Unsaid

Dance – I hope that’s not a misleading word in the title. Although this features some of the usual angst and melancholy you can expect from a p.m.warner track, it’s set to 128 BPM so you can dance – maybe with tears in your eyes. (Apologies to Ultravox – my god they were the best).

Anyway, presenting, Better Left Unsaid. Sometimes there are just no words to make things better.

    Better Left Unsaid

    All these things that

    Are

    Better left unsaid

    This open door

    An invitation to explore

    The abyss there

    Never easy to ignore

There’s a space without stars dancing in the night

    Tumbling down

    Getting lost without a light

    These are things I’ve done

    I’ve seen it all before

    Feels like I’m struggling

    Far away from shore

    All these things that

    Are

    Better left unsaid

    It always stings

    To visit images

    And sifting through

    These old explanations

Night machinations return knocking on the door

    Sinking low

Back to where I was before

Now all these things they’ve said

    They’re already in mind

    With nothing else to say

    Try leaving them behind

(Time to leave them all behind)

    All these things that are

    Better left unsaid

    There’s nothing else to say

    It’s better left unsaid.

    Move

    Let’s take a little time

    Read between the lines

    You’re a hundred miles away

While they’re turning out the lights

    Looking to the skies

    Heard this all your life

    A thousand miles away

    Is where your heart lies

So what I am trying to say

    Your answer’s far away

    You’re speaking through your heart

    You need to break away

(So yeah) you’ve got to move on

    You’re on your own
    You’ve got to move on
    Sometimes you walk alone

    Reaching for the stars

    Who knows where they are

    A million miles away

    Never let them fade

What I am trying to say

    The answer’s far away

    Speaking through your art

    It’s time to break away

(So yeah) you’ve got to move on

    You’re on your own
    You’ve got to be strong
    Sometimes you walk alone

    Lyrics

    Time

    Didn’t take a photograph

Of those days that seemed so long

Because the times were going to last

Never knew we’d be so wrong

    We looked in other eyes

    Telling the sweet lies

    Feeding on the nights

    Dancing to our lives

     No cares what happens next

    Don’t think about the end

    We’ll be young for life

    And be back here again

    The city unfolds lights below

Blurred images of us and them

Knowing now that life slips by (so fast)

Never thought that it could end

    I remember what you said:

“Don’t be sad, we’ll be back here again”

    We looked in other eyes

    Telling the sweet lies

    Feeding on the nights

    Dancing to our lives

     No cares what happens next

    Don’t think about the end

    We’ll be young for life

    And be back here again

    We looked into the eyes

We were telling our sweet lies

    Kept feasting on the nights

We were dancing to our lives

    Didn’t care what happened next

    Never thought about the end

Thinking we were young for life

Can’t rewind the hands of time

    Chorus
